Recap: Golden Globes 2012- WORST

Here is my list of worst moments at the Golden Globes:

Worst Technical Fail: Lowe and Moore Struggling w/ Teleprompter
You know some poor teleprompter guy got the lashing of his life for messing up the prompter for Julianne Moore and Rob Lowe. Luckily, a script girl was on the ball and gave Moore a script to read off of. This gave Lowe a very witty comeback about cold reading for Spielberg. Nice save.

Worst 2nd Time Around: Ricky Gervais

Oh, Ricky. Poor Ricky. They cut those titanium balls that I was talking about off, didn't  they? Yes, they hyped up your 2nd time hosting the Golden Globes so well. We were all excited to see who  would be your newest victims. Not knowing behind the scenes that you had, had your wings clipped and barely had any air time. And when you did have air time, well, let's just say you you gave some soft blows. When Seth Rogan can match your racy/awkward jokes then you have a problem. Now I'm not saying it's all your fault. I'm sure that you had a lot of big wigs breathing down your neck. But I expected more from you, bud.

Worst Attention For Underrated Actors: Michael Fassbender & Idris Elba

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. E! interviewed all the Best Actor nominees present BUT Fassbender. But don't worry they made time to fit in half the cast of Glee and the children of Modern Family (I'm sure if the cute little asian baby was there they would've interviewed her too.)  I understand that a good amount of their demographic are prebuescent teens who salvate over "Robsten" or/and the annoingly chipper Glee cast. But come on! How about the rest of us! Granted Michael is a newcomer, but you could've squeezed him in. Lord, knows he was there for awhile. And people not knowing who the talented and handsome Idris Elba is online!? Ugh. It's a shame.

Worst Introduction: Gervais's introducing Melissa "defecating" in a sink
Ricky introduced Melissa McCarthy as the chick who defecated in the sink for "Bridesmaid." How awkward is that? I mean who wants to come out right after someone says that? And even worse who wants to come out to that PLUS standing next to statuesque Paula Patton. That was just mean.

Worst "Forever Alone": Leonardo DiCaprio
Leo is Leo. He is in the A-list with Clooney and Pitt. However, with Clooney charming the room and Pitt having his other half to make them the super couple,  little Leo seemed like an outsider looking in. Very rarely did I catch him crack a smile and throughout the event he got no acknowledgement for J.Edgar. Even when Clooney was doing his speech he didn't even give a shot out to Leo (not like he had too, but still.) It seemed like being a contender with the least chance of winning (next to Gosling and Fassbender) made him look a little lonely.

Worst "Calm Down!": Paula Patton
I don't know how I feel about Paula Patton. My mother adores her. I can take her or leave. I like her husband more than her (Ello' Robin!) I have also been on the fence about her acting as well. Her part in Ghost Protocall felt so forced in my opinion, but it seems like I am in the minority. Anyways, her bright yellow dress described her at the Golden Globes. Big, bold, and in your face. Girlfriend was way too excited and way too peppy. I can understand that it is a huge event, but she was just too much. And didn't it seem like she was EVERYWHERE! Every shot--she was in. Maybe it's the color of her dress that drew my attention, maybe it was where she was seated, or maybe she was trying to place herself in every camera angle. All I know that I was Patton'd out.

Recap: Golden Globes 2012- THE BEST

Did Clooney seriously arrive on the Red Carpet early!? I mean he was on that carpet with the C and B list and not making a big grand entrance like the Brange. What da what?

Yes, there were a few surprises at Sundays Golden Globes. For the most part the winners were pretty predictable. Several of my predictions were wrong, but those were the ones I wasn't sure about so I wasn't surprised. However, there were some great moments (and not so great moments.) I will post my best and worst dressed later but here are my BEST highlights.

Best Surprise: Meryl Winning For Iron Lady:
Did anyone see that one coming? It honestly seemed like The Help would get their award recognition through Octavia and Viola. However, the Lady Streep was the surprise winner and gave a very frantic and briefly explicit speech (which involved "Oh Shit! My glasses," and a hilarious game of pass the glasses between Weinstien and Clooney.) I was not crazy about The Iron Lady (which is a pity, because Abi Morgan wrote the screenplay and I am a fan of her collabortation with Steve McQueen for Shame) however, there is no arguing that Streep's transformation into Magaret Thatcher is uncanny and pitch perfect. This was such a pleasant surprise and honestly, isn't it time to give the woman her Oscar?

Best Surprise Joke: Seth Rogan and Kate Beckinsale:
"Hello, I'm Seth Rogen, and I'm currently trying to conceal a massive erection."Was it awkward? Yes.  Was it hilarious? Oh yeah. Because with Gervais's lack of air time and soft punched jokes, I was praying for someone to rattle the cage a bit.  And hey, Kate is hot :P

Best "I Am the Best" Speech/ Bitch Face Moment:
If looks could kill, huh? Sir Elton John was not thrilled that Madonna walked away with the GG (in fact it looked like Mary J was giving her the bitch gaze too.) Madonna and Elton have not had the best relationship, and her win on Sunday is probably not going to help things. Honestly, who really feels that Madonna should've won? Compared to all the other great songs, HERS was the best? Or maybe it's due to her overly hyped appearance. Her speech was absolute hilarious. All I heard was "I"s and "Me"s and it just solidified my belief that this was just a vanity project for La Madonna and nothing more.

Best Shoutout About Another Dudes Wang: George Clooney and Michael Fassbender:
I adore Michael Fassbender. In my opinion he should win all the awards for his work in Shame. Since, I have accepted a long time ago, that he would not win the big awards like the Golden Globes and the Oscar, I just appreciated watching him (in a very ill fitted suit) walk the red carpet. So proud! However, I did not expect Clooney to take time to compliment Michael's brave full frontal debut and his massive package! "You can play golf with that thing!" Oh. wow.  Michael Fassbender's manhood matches his very big talent (if you've seen Shame, you know) So, I couldn't help but yell an "Oh My God!" as Michael Fassbender turned red and grinned in amused embarrassment. Was it tacky? Yes, but this is why Clooney is the master. Did you notice that his Thank Yous only stemmed to his buddy Brad Pitt and newcomer Michael Fassbender and not Leo Dicaprio  and Ryan Gosling (a guy who was even in his own movie?) He kept his thank yous strictly in the Fox Searchlight family (His Descendents, Pitt's Tree of Life, and Michael's Shame.) Please don't tell me that was a coincidence. It's not. Clooney is a master Hollywood player. That's why I love him. And hey! He gave the best exposure to Michael and his movie. So in the end no harm no foul.

Best Ricky Retaliation: Colin Firth
Dear Madonna, this is how you comeback at Ricky. After calling the well liked Colin Firth a "racist," Colin gives his fellow Brit a playful fake kick and starts off by saying "As I was on my way in, I noticed some angry religious people outside with big placards threatening us all with brimstone, pestilence and perdition for our sins. What they don't realize is we have Ricky!" Hilarious. That's why we love you, Colin.

Special Mentions:

Uggy the Dog

Tina Fey's awesome photo bombing

William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman's duet: "It's an honor to be nominated, blah blah blah blah."

Expectations For Tomorrows Globe

The Golden Globes tomorrow will be a huge indication on who will be nominated (and possibly win) the Oscars.  For awhile, I have been saying that this year, it has been so hard to predict who will sweep up the awards. It was such a great year, and many breakout movies, actors, and actresses really stood out to me. Since, moving to New York, I have been able to see a lot of films that I would not have been able too if I was living in my last home in Pittsburgh, PA or my families new location in Jacksonville, FL. This is the first time that I have seen most of the films that have been nominated and as a Film Production student who wants to join the film industry and be involved in movies for the rest of my life, it feels really good.

I am that person who watches the pre-show and looks out for my favorite stars and judge the attire, so if you don't want to get a dashboard full of my dribble then come back when the event starts :P

So, first here are my predictions of who will take home the gold.

Prediction: The Help
Prediction: Brad Pitt

Prediction: The Artist

Prediction: Viola Davis
Prediction: Jean Dujardin
Prediction: Kristen Wiig
Prediction: Christopher Plummer
Prediction: Octavia Spencer
Prediction: Michel Hazanavicius
Prediction: Midnight in Paris

So, there are my predictions for the most part. Some, I am about 50/50 right now ( I haven't seen all the films.)  However, the category I'm most interested in is The Best Actor category.  In my opinion, it's going fall down between Pitt and Clooney. That's just plain and simple. Do I believe that they deserve to win? Well, no not really. Pitt was very good in Moneyball. I liked Moneyball.  I have yet, to see Clooney in The Descendants but I hear he also makes an excellent performance. If it was up to me, Michael Fassbender would win hands down. An actor who can pull off a peformance like that and be so brave and daring deserves the acolades. However, this won't happen. The academy hated "Shame." The content is too risque. This and that and this and that. Also, as I mentioned in a previous post Fassbender has not been hustling like Clooney and Pitt (and no one hustles better than Cloon and Pitt.) Based on pure performance in a film, Fassbender would have my vote. But he won't win and that's that. Heck, I'm not even confident that he will even be nominated for an Oscar (that's for a whole 'nother post) As for my prediction for Pitt, I am basing this on an idea that they will give it to him as an "Isn't it about time you got one?" He's been working hard. Campaigning with Jolie (who has been working hard to get "In the Land of Blood and Honey" in the running as well)  and working the crowds, kissing the babies, and hitting the news junkets.

See! Isn't he dashing?

I would be fine if Pitt gets it. He's been in the business for along time and has worked his way up for many years (and still very relevant.) The Cloon had his time with the gold statue, why not give it to his good friend?

As for the event tomorrow I think it's going to be good. As I've said Ricky Gervais is going to bring it. He said on Conan that this will be his last time hosting so I bet he's going to let it all hang out. There will be some nervous people in that room tomorrow. NO. ONES. SAFE. LOL

See ya tomorrow ;)

Who I Am Excited To See At the Golden Globes

  • Michael Fassbender: I have been a huge fan of his since "Hunger." I am happy that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. Cheers, Fassy!
  • Brangelina: Don't roll your eyes and quit on me. I know, I know, but COME ON! Hate them, love them, they always bring it on the red carpet. They are always last to come on the carpet.
  • Viola Davis: I love her.
  • Clooney/ Keibler: Same as Brangelina, but I'm more curious to see how Keibler handles herself as her role as Clooney's plus one.
